Volunteer Info

The Metropolitan Cooperative Theatre Society is a nonprofit association formed to promote and develop theatre arts on a non-professional level. The Metro Centre is owned and operated by the Metropolitan Cooperative Theatre Society. The Society's theatre is operated as a regional training centre for the benefit of technicians, actors, directors, and administrative interns.

Metro Volunteers - Without our volunteers, there would be no Metro! Metro has been staffed from the first by volunteers in every aspect from acting, backstage, costumes, front of house to directing, designing or even running our licensed lounge.

If you live in the Lower Mainland of Vancouver, BC and are interested in learning about theatre and being involved with a production, Metro Theatre is the theatre for you! As a regional training centre, experience is not required, but a desire to learn and the willingness to commit to a production is mandatory.

Are you a director who has experience directing community theatre productions?  Or perhaps you know an experienced director who would be interested in directing a Metro production?  Metro Theatre is always looking for directors who are willing to share their directorial skills and adding to our pool of existing directors!

If you are interested in volunteering in the fields of lighting, sound, running/backstage crew, stage management, props, costumes, make-up, concession/front of house or publicity, please call (604) 266-7191 and leave a message for the Volunteer Coordinator.

Or contact us by email for more information on volunteer opportunities.

Many of our volunteers have gone on to get paying jobs in the TV and film industry. Experience at Metro Theatre counts towards applications with the big technical unions (example: IATSE and ACFC).
